Simon moved his eyes along the rows, then stood and walked forward. Without thinking, he … lit a candle in the middle of the dark pack. The light flickered briefly in some hidden breeze, then stood straight and clear. He watched it and said a little prayer for Katy. That little flickering lamp entered into him and he knew why he had been drawn into this church. Where was she now? Simon knew; Simon’s heart knew. He was answering her cry for help. He, Simon, who was beyond help, who knew one day, one year, one moment he would be needing someone to pull into a church parking lot, not knowing why… then lighting a candle for his soul.
