“Katy got up and went into the bathroom, returned and fell asleep again, without noticing him lying there staring at the wall. Simon felt the sadness creep back into his consciousness, disrupting the gentle dreams. He sighed and rolled out of bed. He looked at himself in the mirror – hair disheveled, well… more than disheveled, he thought critically – sticking up at odd angles – he seemed to have three points on his head. Simon looked back at Simon. But the sadness lay there underneath everything, unchanged and unchanging. He climbed back into bed knowing the weariness was too much. Shadowy figures danced their dance. He could almost touch them but shivered at the thought of trying.”
