Plain Words 1

the poet raised his tired eyes and silent words began to sing and fly

they rose until the sunlight glinted golden from their skin

they swooped and dived and did double flips

they settled on tree limbs then played with birds

faint stars appearing applauded them

as gentle breezes carried them ever higher until lost from sight

he no longer saw his words no matter how hard he tried

the poet turned and began again

he could not stop the words from leaving him
